ShowUp Presents Caron Tabb: A Stone In My Shoe
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 1, 2025, Boston – ShowUp is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, A Stone in My Shoe; meditations on spirituality, memory and compassion, a solo exhibition of works by artist and activist Caron Tabb. The show features all white, primarily fiber installations that draw upon the rich symbolism of textile art. The title is an idiom to explain the invisible pain and discomfort we carry within despite often appearing fine. Entirely in white, these works reflect the significance and symbolism that Tabb’s Jewish tradition places on the color—as a signifier of transcendence, purity, and sacredness.
Tabb’s work seeks to heighten our compassion and empathy for others, especially in a time when many are facing adversity. A Stone in My Shoe will run from March 7th through June 1st, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 7th, from 5 to 8 pm. And there will be a gallery tour conducted by Tabb on March 20th at 2 pm.
About the Artist
Caron Tabb is a Boston-based mixed-media artist whose work explores themes of social justice, racial equality, immigration, and feminism through the lens of her Jewish heritage. Born in apartheid South Africa, Tabb was raised on a farm in Israel from age eight and has lived in the United States for the past two decades. Before becoming an artist, she had a long career in the nonprofit sector, focusing on various social justice issues, thus, her work often addresses complex societal issues, aiming to provoke thought, create dialogue, and inspire change, leading to the creation of conceptual mixed-media pieces that incorporate found objects and unconventional materials.
