Artist in Residence: Martha Chason-Sokol

Beacon Gallery and ShowUp is excited to announce that, Martha Chason-Sokol, a local mixed media contemporary artist based in Everett, MA, has been selected as the gallery’s first Artist in Residence (AiR) for a 5-week residency from July 23- August 28, 2022.
As part of Beacon Gallery’s nonprofit initiative and the Arts Administration Association New England (AAANE), this AiR program aspires to support artists to explore and unleash their creative process. The program is designed to bring talented artists into Beacon Gallery’s creative space to produce work for in-situ and an ongoing exhibition. Chason-Sokol will have access to studio and gallery space, receive an honorarium, as well as support from curatorial and administrative staff, while developing unique artwork on site.
Chason-Sokol will be creating an installation currently entitled, The Dinner Party, which will consist of a dynamic site-specific installation featuring discarded materials from the artist’s home and surroundings, including furniture, plastic wraps, lights and sound equipment, among other items.
A series of events open to the public will also be coordinated as part of this residency program including three studio visits, one artist talk and a 3-day final exhibition August 26-28th.

About the Artist:
Martha Chason-Sokol is a contemporary artist based in Everett, MA. Chason-Sokol’s socio-political art has been exhibited both locally and nationally. She has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, was a finalist in the Bromfield Gallery Solo Show in 2021 and 2019 and received the Strauch-Mosse Merit Scholarship from Lesley University Art College of Art and Design (2020-2022), the Ella Lyman Cabot Fellowship for Creativity and Revere Arts Lottery Grant.
She holds a BA from Brandeis University and an MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, MA. She also serves as Chair of the Everett Cultural Council, is the Founder/Director of Art Lab Everett and a member of the Cambridge Art Association.
