Land Acknowledgement

ShowUp is a guest on the unceded homelands of the Massachusett and Pawtucket peoples and their neighbors the Wampanoag and Nipmuc. We declare their sovereignty and acknowledge them as caretakers of this land. On this land, past and present, many wounds of colonialism and white supremacy transpired. Since history does not exist in isolation but is alive and well in our daily decisions, we amplify indigenous people’s voices and support land back efforts.

Going against the harmonious precedent held by indigenous people, the South End has been a place of inequity and gentrification within the past thirty years. Art has real financial ramifications for this community that we share space with, and we position ourselves as arbiters and stewards of social change in our sphere of influence. As a space for convening, we invite all into our gallery and foster a culture of belonging. We will not be idle bystanders nor witnesses to bigotry or hate.
